What does CURES™ stand for?
CURES™ stands for Compression Ulcer Recovery System™.
Can the Juxta-CURES™ be worn directly against the skin?
In most cases, yes. Many of our patients have found that the Juxta-CURES™ is so comfortable that they actually prefer to wear it directly on the skin. Many of these people have also noticed reduced slippage when doing so. Additionally, the inside fabric layer contains silver-based antimicrobial fibers that prevent bacterial growth within the garment and control the formation of unpleasant odors between washings. CURES™ is provided with one pair of liners for patients with sensitive skin or to help protect the legging from heavy exudate. CURES™ is a secondary dressing and should not be directly applied to any wound.
Is the Comfort Compression Anklet™ covered under warranty?
No, the Anklet is not covered under warranty. Unless the Anklet is defective upon arrival, it will not be replaced.
Can the Juxta-CURES™ be machine washed?
It is always best to hand wash and drip dry CircAid® compression garments in order to extend their life. However, it is safe to machine-wash Juxta-CURES™ on a gentle cycle (warm) and dry using a medium heat setting. If doing so with other clothing, it is recommended the Juxta-CURES™ be put in a pillowcase in order to prevent the Velcro® from damaging any other clothes and to aid in keeping the Velcro® free from lint.
What sizes and lengths are available for the Juxta-CURES™?
The Juxta-CURES™ comes in three lengths: short, standard or long, and is one-size-fits-most. The Juxta-CURES™ can accommodate ankle circumference ranges between 19cm-42cm, and calf circumference ranges between 25cm-64cm.
What measurements are needed to fit a patient for the Juxta-CURES™?
The ankle and largest calf circumference measurements are needed to properly adjust CURES™ to the patient’s size. A floor to knee crease measurement is also required to choose the appropriate length of garment for the patient. If the length is below 44cm, the patient fits into a short CURES™ garment, if the length is between 44cm-49cm, the patient fits into a standard CURES™ garment, and if the length is over 49cm, the patient fits into a long CURES™ garment.
What if the patient doesn't fit into CURES™?
Juxta-CURES™ is one-size-fits-most, but in the event the patient is unable to be treated with CURES™, original bandaging protocol may need to be followed.
What should be done if the legging feels too tight?
Re-check the bands using the Built-In Pressure System™ (BPS™) card to assure that every band is tightened to the prescribed pressure range. If the bands are adjusted to the appropriate level and the garment still feels too tight, consult a physician about the prescribed pressure range. The Juxta-CURES™ should never hurt. It should feel firm but comfortable. If experiencing any pain, remove the garment and contact a physician immediately.
How much excess material should be left when cutting the garment?
We recommend that a 5cm (2 inches) margin be left when cutting off the excess material; this allows for spine readjustments should the patient’s leg size increase.
Can bandaging or Unna Boots be replaced with Juxta-CURES™?
Yes, Juxta-CURES™'s inelasticity is as effective as bandaging or other short-stretch systems. Such systems provide dynamic compression to the leg when the patient is ambulatory, meaning that the working pressure under the legging is varied by increasing and decreasing during movement. CURES™ follows these same principles.
What are the benefits of using Juxta-CURES™ over using bandaging or Unna Boots?
The Juxta-CURES™ is significantly faster to apply to a patient over the treatment period. It is a reusable system tailored to each patient compared to the multi layers of bandaging requiring removal, application, and modification at each office visit. The reduced application time of CURES™ leaves more time for wound care and the number of patients that can be treated is increased. The total cost of patient care with Juxta-CURES™ is also significantly lower than the total cost of bandaging; one CURES™ garment is sufficient for the treatment of most ulcers, whereas bandaging needs to be continually replaced until treatment is completed. Juxta-CURES™ offers improved therapeutic benefits and opens the door to new treatment protocols; because CURES™ can be removed, the patient is able to shower, change their wound dressings (when instructed/desired), and the garment can be washed between reapplications. CURES™ also offers repeatable compression adjusted to the patient, which guarantees that the patient is consistently getting the amount of compression required to heal the ulcer.
Can Juxta-CURES™ be used over wound dressings?
Yes, the conformability of the Juxta-CURES™ material allows for the garment to conform around the wound dressings. CURES™ is a secondary dressing only and should never be applied directly to any wound.
What compression level is recommended for patients with venous insufficiency ulcers?
Studies indicate that 40-50mmHg of compression is required to counter venous hypertension associated with the patient’s venous disease, thus leading to healing of the ulcer. Once the ulcer is healed, recent studies have indicated that 40mmHg of compression will significantly reduce the recurrence of venous insufficiency ulcers over time.
What if the spine tabs accidentally come loose?
Although unlikely, the spine tabs may come undone when pulling at the bands. If concerned with accidental removal, mark/trace the spine tab position with a permanent marker so that the spine tab locations can easily be found. The Juxta-CURES™ also comes with 6 Velcro® Stays that can be fastened to the spine and garment for additional adherence.
Juxta-CURES™ healed the ulcer, now what?
The patient should talk to their doctor about receiving a maintenance garment. CircAid® offers the Juxta-Lite™ Standard Legging, which provides the same comfort, adjustability, convenience, and therapeutic effectiveness as Juxta-CURES™, but in a simpler standard design. Compression needs to be continually worn in order to reduce the risk of ulcer recurrence.
