Start the New Year Fresh!

Posted on December 29, 2010 by CircAid® Marketing and Communications

Many enjoy making resolutions for the New Year. Most goals focus around professional development, family life, emotional well being, and of course health. For those who are living with Lymphedema and Venous Disease, it may be difficult or frustrating to maintain a consistent routine of compression; however, there are many benefits that come from maintaining a daily routine of compression therapy. Here a just a few to help get you motivated for the New Year:

  • Swelling – Compression is the most effective way to control edema, swelling caused by pooling fluids, generally occurring within the lymphatic and/or venous systems. When edema is present, compression therapy provides the necessary counter pressure to return fluid to circulation and reduce swelling.
  • Prevention –A daily routine of compression helps prevent the development of other serious conditions, increases blood circulation, aids in developing stronger skin dexterity, and can also prevent painful ulcers from forming.
  • Independence – Lymphedema and Venous Disease can make it challenging to maintain an active, independent lifestyle. However, by implementing a daily compression routine, mobility can be improved. Not only does compression help the venous and lymphatic systems, it also assists the muscles in performing more efficiently. Thus, relieving pain and discomfort in the limb and enabling more activity.

30 Day Challenge

One way to see the benefits of a daily compression routine is to set short term goals like a 30 Day Challenge. Set a goal of being compliant with your prescribed compression protocol every day for 30 days. The difference in your health will hopefully be undeniable. The reduction of the limb size, improved mobility, and increased energy will be all the motivation that you will need to maintain your daily compression routine throughout the year and to set further goals.

If you have previously struggled with implementing a traditional daily routine of compression therapy, look into your options. There are many alternatives to traditional compression stockings and bandaging. If you would like more information about how CircAid® is making compression easier, contact your local sales representative or call Customer Service at (800) CIRCAID (247-2243).
